Hi John,

Pirate Bay and stuff you quoted are not the right way to get into the GNU spirit. As the first message in this list said, you should read some articles at gnu dot com to comprehend the spirit of it.

I don't believe FSF or GNU Project support any way of piracy. I believe our goal is to avoid copyright laws which remove your freedom to do what is basic for anyone, like access to acquire knowledge.

So if Free Software is what you want, GNU Project website is the place you should read and spend sometime to enhance your habilities arguing about it :)

Best regards,

Hello All,

I was asked to join your community,by whom,I haven't a clue! While I have some computer knowledge, and read everything I can about the GNU network,I am not that familiar with the terminology. Most of what I have learned,I have learned from The Pirates Bay site, and the Gnu relating to Limewire's software. If this lack of understanding of your community disqualifies me,I understand. However, I would like the opportunity to learn from your vast knowledge and years of expertize! I DO have a thirst for learning and understanding, and do know difference between "Free Software"

and the "GNU" network. I'll leave this decision up to the community. That said,I would love to learn and promote what you are trying to do!

                                                                                                                       Best Regards,

I'm sure sometimes is hard to explain the GNU philosophy to non-computer related people when they just asked about Linux. At this case, I like to let clear the efforts made by GNU crew and the free software movement to make the Linux Kernel what it has become nowadays.

When I'm speaking about Free Software it's easier, because people usually pay attention for an explanation about the real sense of it. Therefore I speak about the terminology deeper, speaking sometimes technically why only Linux is wrong and sometimes ethically.

I wrote an article about it some years ago. If you want to read, the link follows below:

When using the term GNU/Linux in advocating important principles, Boston City Hall people fail to comprehend the term. Would any of you kind folks have any hints, tips or pointers?...
