What does everyone think of the controversial news of a gnome split
from GNU? It was on Slashdot

I think it is a very bad idea. In fact, what would they name it, if they split up? GNOME is GNU Networked Object Model Environment, Sounds weired if the just call it NOME ;)

I fail to see what good could possibly come from a split? None that I can think off. Then again, there has always been whispering in some corner of a merger between Gnome and KDE. I believe that this time it's the ones in the Free Software Community who votes for one single desktop environment for GNU/Linux who is rattling their sables a bit louder than usually. But I don't agree with them. This "shotgun policy" needed to enforce just one environment would have far reaching consequences, to far for anyone to comprehend, And to be honest I think the Free Software Community is too diverse for people to agree on just one way of doing things.
