I will provide some more info. I don't know why a kernel driver exists
for IPMI Serial Terminal-Mode interface. Using a standard serial
driver (say /dev/ttyS1) and serial programming library, just the
serial mode settings (BAUD rate and stuff) and you can parse it like
regular text. 

Intel mother boards are known to support the "Terminal Mode ASCII Text
Commands" as in IPMI specifications properly. By sending a special key
stroke you can instruct the BMC to take control over the serial port
and enter TERMINAL-MODE.

You should first try with minicom and make sure the commands
work. If you need help, let me know.
