Thanks for writing.

    I wanted to inquire about the maintainer requirements for this project.

I wrote a bit on the web page (http://www.gnu.org/software/fontutils)
about the status of the various programs.  Some should just be removed
from the distribution.  Of course, if there are ideas for new utilities
to be added, that could be nice.

Anyway, the basic approach should probably be to get the code to compile
again with current gcc, and then update the infrastructure to current
autoconf and prepare a new release that way.  And then work on actual
functionality :).

Let me know if you're interested.  (Except I'll be offline the next few
days, so there will be a bit of a delay there.  I'd love to see
fontutils revived, though.)
