Thanks for this contribution.   I'll ask Eric (who's more familiar
with "bootstrap", since he maintains other packages that use it) to
give an opinion on the patch.

But so that we can apply the patch, could you perform an FSF copyright
assignment for findutils (along with any needed disclaimer)?   I
notice that you have already made one for some other GNU packages, so
I guess you're familiar with the mechanism.
