The parallel tempering script is part of ESPResSo only since version
2.0.5e. Are you sure that you are using the most recent
ESPResSo-version? You can download a more recent version from [1].

In general, the User's Guide that you find in the WWW[2] refers to the
current CVS version of ESPResSo. The User's Guide of a release comes
bundled together with the release, in the subdirectory
        doc/ug/

You should always refer to and read this UG!
