Yes, I found OTR already and now read the PDF (otr-codecon.pdf).
However, I already have a hard time to convince my contacts to use any
encryption software :(, so I'd prefer just one implementation.
I also encourage them to use a *strong* mantra, so even if a secret key
is compromised and consequently discarded for future use, I still
think gpg offers pretty good privacy. Deniability is not a prime goal of
mine, in fact I am not sure it is a goal at all.
And: gpg has a large userbase, lots of people depend on it so I think
(hope) it is well maintained. (The whole debian infrastructure
depends on gpg.)

That was my point: I think (!) it would be much easier to implement gpg,
because it is already well integrated into emacs with easypg.
