I have erc-truncate-buffer-on-save set to t, but it works intermittenly.

I have 5 erc channels open, and on some, every time I save the buffer,
the buffer is truncated.  On others, the first time only, I save, the
buffer is truncated.  After that first time, the buffer is saved every
time, but not truncated.

I'm using C-c C-l (erc-save-buffer-in-logs).  

It doesn't seem that this variable is buffer local, so...?
