Looks like your autoconf is far too old. According to doc/HACKING enigma
needs autoconf >= 2.5. And as far as I can tell that means 2.50 and
above (bit of a strange release numbering scheme).
My Linux distribution (Gentoo) installs both autoconf 2.13 and 2.58 and
uses an environment variable (WANT_AUTOCONF) to determine which one to
use. Maybe your distribution does something similar?
