Thanks, I try this.  FWIW here is the configuration I use, in case that
someone is interested:

(setf org-after-sorting-entries-or-items-hook
      (lambda ()
        (search-forward  ":bottommost:")
        (org-cut-subtree)
        (goto-char (point-max))
        (org-paste-subtree 1)))
