This works for me but you need to put the time in the headline, as in:

,----
| * 2pm-3pm my lecture on really interesting stuff
| <%%(org-class 2016 6 3 2016 7 1 0)>
`----

It may be that the <%% line needs to be flush to the left, i.e. no
leading spaces, but I'm not sure.

Note that 0 is a Sunday...
