Some years ago I had sent a mail on this subject (Feb 6 2009).  I fished it out and was editing it (below) and then see that Eric Abrahamsen has said most what I wanted to say. 

Anyways Ive kept the subject list below and want to add only this much:

People come to org for different reasons/needs/inclinations.
It is definitely worthwhile clubbing these diverse/contrasting ways into a few (5-10?) foci/approaches
