It still does work for me. Just tested it now, with:
Org-mode version 7.4 (release_7.4.553.g83b7)

Why not. But, for me, this should be a consequence of Emacs preferences
regarding the browser to use when clicking on a link.
See `browse-url-browser-function' and `browse-url-generic-program', among
others.
