Check out the variable org-agenda-todo-keyword-format. 

E.g.,

(setq org-agenda-custom-commands
      '(("x" "Special" todo "SPECIAL"
              ((org-agenda-todo-keyword-format "")))))

The variable org-agenda-prefix-format might also be of interest.
