I just tried the same on a different, clean machine and I still get the same
problem. This is the content of my .emacs file :

(add-to-list 'load-path "/usr/share/emacs/site-lisp/remember")
(add-to-list 'load-path "/usr/share/emacs/site-lisp/org")

(require 'org-install)
(require 'remember)

(org-remember-insinuate)
(setq org-directory "~/agenda")
(setq org-default-notes-file (concat org-directory "/notes.org"))
(define-key global-map "\C-cr" 'org-remember)

(setq org-remember-templates
  '(("Todo" ?t "* TODO %?\n %i\n %a" "~/org/TODO.org" "Tasks")
    ("Journal" ?j "* %U %?\n\n %i\n %a" "~/org/JOURNAL.org")
    ("Idea" ?i "* %^{Title}\n %i\n %a" "~/org/JOURNAL.org" "New Ideas")))

Jurgen
