Hi people,
Bridges to non-IRC communities are often sustained by "relay bots" that
forward messages back and forth. IRC seems to have drawn the short straw
in this arrangement because there currently aren't any standards for
representing a remote presence in the native IRC context (which leads to
a rather painful user experience, IMO). Thus, I've been experimenting
with some heuristics-based hacks to tide us over and hopefully see us
through the transition to whatever ultimately emerges, standards-wise.
One such hack, for example, is "edit detection", which should help tame
those annoying revision sprees by serial editors from the other side.
Unfortunately, this stuff depends on features not yet available on
trunk. For now, the easiest way to give it a whirl is by temporarily
installing an edge version of ERC (Emacs 27+). This can be done by
adding this to your `package-archives'
("erc-edge" . "https://emacs-erc.gitlab.io/bugs/archive/")
and installing the latest erc-49860. When you've had enough, just delete
the corresponding folder in your `package-user-dir'. See the commentary
section atop erc-masquerade.el for details.
Thanks,
J.P.
