This is really not heading in the right direction: I'd rather stick to the use of defcustom, than trying to mimick a "defcustom without its inner defvar because that part's already done in C". Maybe we can just strip the C docstring to a single line, assuming it'll be overwritten by a subsequent defcustom. Stefan
