Hm... what would this look like in practice? Would we have a bunch of
configure.ac files -- configure-os.ac, configure-toolkit.ac, etc?
(Which might be nice in any case, since the configure.ac file we have is
rather large.)
And then the Makefile would run the different configure bash scripts in
parallel?
