It's actually disabled in fido-mode, except for the "sole remaining match" case, so we're not really cramming them in. So it's an aesthetic choice at this point.
so I suspect other users may care, but I'm not one of them because I don't use icomplete any more (well, I do enable it occasionally, but it's fairly rare).
Did you go back to the standard completion UI?
