(FWIW, I'm a long-time and happy user of center-line, and was quite annoyed when it moved from its original M-s to a longer "M-o M-s", but that's water under the bridge.)
In which Emacs version was M-s bound to center-line? Are you perhaps thinking of M-S (aka M-S-s) in enriched-mode, which was (and still is) bound to set-justification-center?
