Not sure we can do this change this close to Emacs 26 release, though.
That's up to the current maintainers.
It a matter of changing just the binding. It's not as if a new functionality or change in older functionality needs to be thoroughly tested.
Also, I made that patch proposal back in July[1]. And seeing that we still need to get the first 26.1 pretest out, I thought it might not be too late for this just-binding change. I hope the maintainers can ship it with emacs 26.1. If not that, at least in the master.
