>From long experience with Emacs, I have to agree that I can't expect
that -- Emacs sometimes lacks respect for orthogonality of APIs (and
UIs, for that matter).  I also agree with Andreas -- I *should* be
*able* to expect that, and it's a good thing for developers to
anticipate and cater to such expectations.
