In theory, maybe I could agree.  But so far I haven't seen any use of
secure-boot that helps the user's freedom rather than harms it.

My point exactly.

How would secure-booting protect the user against BIOS-inserted malware?
A Free BIOS would seem to be much more useful/effective for that purpose.
