Dupe of http://debbugs.gnu.org/cgi/bugreport.cgi?bug=17903. I've been waiting a month now for a comment. This change isn't documented, brings no user-visible benefit AFAICS (rather the opposite), and I see no interest in fixing the problems it creates.
