I tried adapting the Mac port for ARC (automatic reference counting)
introduced in Xcode 4.2.  I'm planning to include it to the next
release of the Mac port, but if you want to test it now, then apply
the following patch and run configure like "$ CC='clang -fobjc-arc'
./configure ...".
