Can you move this discussion elsewhere?
AFAIK Emacs can't make this operation faster (tho maybe we could create
a new branch and merge from trunk to that new branch (so the current
revision would become revision 2 or so), and hope that Bzr becomes
snappier because there are fewer revisions).
