I'm wondering how to test this, though.  Although I could just convert it
blindly and hope that when it fails that someone will speak up.  :-)

The smtpmail.el conversion to opportunistic STARTTLS will require a bit
more violence to the smtpmail.el code than the pop3.el conversion, but I
hope to get to it this weekend.
