Yes, that's what I was trying to say, in a round-about way. Sometimes
I've got foot in mouth. Thanks for expressing it more clearly :-)

That's much clearer.

(not that a function guessing the coding system -- and the language! of
a stext snippet wouldn't be cool, though).
