Tried using shell-command (bound to M-!)?
This isn't exactly what I asked for.
Your suggestion could be OK in case of applications which do not require
introducing input.
Suppose the program is
$ cat hello.F95
program hello
implicit none
integer :: i
print *, 'i = '
read *,i
print *,i
print *,'Hello World!'
end program hello
then
M-! ./hello
fails printing:
At line 5 of file hello.F95 (unit = 5, file = 'stdin')
Fortran runtime error: End of file
i =

Angelo.
