Now the thing that should be considered is whether
soft newlines should be regarded the same as blank
characters.
I think so. After all, they are converted to and from spaces.
Or in the Lisp level, perhaps we can make adding a
`syntax-table' text property default when inserting soft
newlines.
Since that is the method we are using, why not?
