Unable to cvs update

I'm using anonymous cvs to access the Emacs development sources.  Checking out 
is fine, but I'm unable to update.  It times out after a few minutes:

$ cd ~/src/emacs
$ cvs update
cvs [update aborted]: received broken pipe signal

This has been happening for quite a few days.

Does anybody have any suggestions?  Is anybody else seeing this?
