I do not have any problems matching `[' with `]' when regexps are
written cleanly. I do have problems when `]', `\]', or `\\]' get mixed
up as in the `gud-jdb-marker-filter' bug.

We have been comparing character alternatives with strings. Elisp
strings don't nest.
