Today's CVS snapshot, Fri, 2003 May 2 12:11 UTC
GNU Emacs 21.3.50.4 (i686-pc-linux-gnu, X toolkit)
started with
/usr/local/bin/emacs -q --no-site-file --eval '(blink-cursor-mode 0)'
(A `make recompile' build; my last `make bootstrap' build was
yesterday.)
Immediately after starting Emacs, I visit the file `foo' with no
trouble. Then I try to visit an alternate file, `bar', which also
exists using the command `C-x C-v' (find-alternate-file).
I am unable to visit the alternate file; instead, I receive the
message
call-interactively: Symbol's value as variable is void: dired-directory
I can visit the alternate file successfully if I give the
`dired-directory' symbol a value with the `setq' command:
(setq dired-directory nil)
For some reason, the autoload for `dired-directory' in the
emacs/lisp/dired.el library is not being loaded into loaddefs.el.
(This is a fresh instance of loaddefs.el, retrieved from CVS with the
rest of the update this morning.)
However, after I run `update-file-autoloads' on the
emacs/lisp/dired.el library and then rebuild Emacs, I can visit the
alternate file.
What needs to be done?
