OK, so I was working on the basis of (for this purpose) a prehistoric
version.  Sorry.

OK.  I personally have never much liked language environments, but
that could very well be because I've never seen one that worked as you
describe.  ;-)  I'll build a more recent CVS and try that for a while,
since the description sounds quite close to what I'd want, except for
some basically cosmetic details.
