I won't have the opportunity to try your test case before 2001-12-22,
so it would be good if someone else could track this down further.

(The only connection to the Internet I have from here is from a
dedicated old i386 PC in the server room which is too weak to run X,
and I cannot install ``arbitrary'' software on the other machines,
because of security concerns (not from the technical people, but from
administration/upper management, which means it's near impossible to
overcome any time soon.)
