The first checkout! It is a horror to extract emacs anyway, but
having such extreme file sizes as the elc.tgz archive sucks.
I'm sitting behind a (sometimes unreliable) 28.8k modem...
Isn't the idea of CVS to always have up-to-date files? Conserving
outdated tgz files there is really nonsense IMHO.
I rather suggest to use a tool like xdelta to create diffs between my
suggested elc-archive -- instead of some MByte, the binary diffs only
have some kByte.
