Hi all,

I noticed that currently all free DVD-R(W) capable versions of cdrecord,
and also dvdrecord cannot adjust the speed correctly with the

speed=#

command. When one ejects the DVD-R recordable and reinserts again
the unit is initiated again to do a media check and the speed is then
adjusted to maximum allowed. So basicly dvdrecord and other alike versions
can only burn at MAXIMUM speed....This is however rather inconvenient
when using cheaper media , or media which actually is 1X DVD recording speed
but has a 2X DVD recording vendor lable.

Schily's cdrecord.prodvd binary however is able to lower the speed
with the speed=# command.

To check if i could enable the speed=# command to also lower the
recording speed after inserting a DVD-R(W) recordable i checked upon
the Multimedia SCSI Specification : MMC-3 Draft Revision 10g :

ftp://ftp.t10.org/t10/drafts/mmc3/mmc3r10g.pdf
-----------------------------------------------
page 272, par. 5.34 :

SET CD SPEED : Operation Code = 0xBB
This command (table 320 is used to set read speed and write
speed and only to CD-R/RW Logical Unit.

Ehh? well i searched further at Pioneer's :

http://www.pioneerelectronics.com/Pioneer/Files/DVDCommandSet.PDF
----------------------------------------------------------------
page 2,3 :

SET CD-ROM SPEED : Code = 0xBB (ATAPI and SCSI) 1x only ......

Also published inside are special DVD-ROM only commands, and more interesting
also vendor unique commands :)

page 6 :

SET CD-ROM SPEED (1) : Code = 0xBB (Applied models 3 and 4)
SET CD-ROM SPEED (2) : Code = 0xDA (Applied models 1,2,3 and 4)

the second command version only applies to DVD-ROM drives...

Well go figure :) Pioneer just changes CD into CD-ROM like that...
Who invents the standards here? Pioneer or the NCTIS ??

So i'm currently hacking some new scsi commands for Pioneer DVD drives.
