Follow-up Comment #2, bug #25421 (project duplicity):
The checkpoint is intended to make restart possible at a known state. If the
system errors out, we could be in the middle of an input file and that would
require saving state every time we started a new file. The goal is to keep it
simple, and restart in the middle of a file is not simple.
