Follow-up Comment #3, patch #6298 (project duplicity):

OK on the -m for ncftpput.  I missed that.

There is one other problem, if you strip the '/' from the beginning of the
path, then you introduce problems with FTP sites that do not chroot (some
internal sites).  The ftp://address@hidden//path specifies and absolute path 
where
ftp://address@hidden/path specifies a relative path.  Unless there's a reason to
change this behavior, I'm going to have to reject that change.

On a chroot'ed FTP, '/path' means that '/' is the chroot root.
