Follow-up Comment #2, patch #6298 (project duplicity):

This patch will create the remote directory only for operations that should
write something.  The trick is the -m switch given to the ncftpput helper.

Rather, if the user runs

  $ duplicity collection-status ftp://MyServer/Bogus/

the FTP backend should not create an empty 'Bogus' directory if it does not
already exist.
