Thanks for the quick reply Edgar and Ken!

I've first tried Edgar's solution, but my problem seems a bit deeper 
because using Ken's suggestion (--s3-european-buckets --s3-use-new-style 
s3://s3-eu-west-1.amazonaws.com/[bucket_name], or with the stable 
version of duplicity) I get the same, following error:

Although duplicity waits about 30 seconds before giving this error. I 
thought it might be a network related problem, but I've opened up the 
firewall for outgoing traffic but still no success.
