What happens when you run that command normally on the command line?
With some suitable test files instead of those duplicity ones? And
after it runs, also tell us what the result of "echo $?" is. That
prints the return value of the last command.
Presumably that command is failing for some reason. It may print a
more descriptive failure on the command line when you run it.
