Summary:  Serialization fails

Original Submission:  When serializing an Object containing String members the
serialization fails because the code tries to write the
null-value as String.

Attached are:
1) a testcase
2) a patch I did which works arround this (serialization still fails because 
the contens of the written file is wrong)
