I believe the idea of Forum was to provide a unified GUI front-end to
multiple communication systems - including, but not limited to
phpGroupWare. So Forum would give you a nice GUI and behind the
scenes it would talk XML-RPC with one or more phpgw servers. Forum
would also talk with Jabber servers and with whatever other
communication systems people want to use.
