I thoroughly agree, I tried to engage with the mailing list - however
when there are very few people actively sending responses (at one point
I think me and Tim had a chain of five or six messages) it is not very
productive.

The fact thatseveral people are going on holiday over the next week or so 
should emphasise the effectiveness of the mailing list.
