Details:

The Directives->Standalone Segno comes after a line break:

\once \override TextScript #'break-visibility =
#begin-of-line-invisible \mark \markup { \musicglyph #"scripts.segno" } 

a different syntax will be needed for segnos that mark the end of the passage
(often dal segno).
