Well, that was the idea. But the progress has been better than I
anticipated. The soc branch built for the portaudio backend via
fluidsynth (./configure --enable-portaudio) now does everything that
master does except for tempo changing during playback. And does it using
less CPU and without the audio suffering hiccups.

I have looked at the implentation of dynamic tempo change and it is
difficult to implement in the threaded code, but I can live without it.

So perhaps we should concentrate on testing the soc branch after merging
in the master?
