[Denemo-devel] call out to guile

There are various places where a call is made from C to guile. No status
information was being gathered about whether the call succeeded or not,
despite some calls checking the result. I have put in a simple check -
this may not be enough for nested calls - so watch out for altered
behavior and report any problems.
