Details:
I used 0.8.12 without any of this problem. With 0.8.14, odd characters are
displayed instead of musical symbols. I did 'make uninstall' from both 0.8.12
and 0.8.14 directories and then 'make install' from 0.8.14, and the symptom
remained. Upon reinstalling 0.8.12, the window looks reasonable.
My 0.8.14 was built from this source tarball, because the normal path was not
found on the web server:
