I've collected together the main features of the new release (to help me
write the documentation) - something like this will be needed for the
release notes. Here is what I have

Release No. 0.7.8 (This needs to be checked in, I think in a file called
config.h, and the cvs branch labelled, after the Documentation update
which I hope to do by Thursday 26th (tomorrow). We should probably all
then try to download and build it before posting the tarball)
